Youth Perspectives on Just Transition in Ida-Virumaa

About the project

The project empowers young people to explore how residents of Ida-Virumaa experience the just transition and bring community perspectives into dialogue with local decision-makers. Young participants will conduct interviews, create a public exhibition and engage directly with the Narva-Jõesuu municipality.

Details

Project idea

Ida-Virumaa is one of Europe’s key just transition regions. The project gives young people an opportunity to explore how local residents experience changes related to climate policy, energy transition, employment and the future development of the region.

Through interviews, analysis of collected stories and public formats, young people will turn community voices into a meaningful contribution to local dialogue.

Main activities

The project includes training sessions on climate issues, just transition and community dialogue, as well as at least 50 interviews and conversations with residents across Ida-Virumaa.

After collecting stories, the team will analyse community perspectives, create a public exhibition in Narva-Jõesuu, organise two public dialogue events with representatives of Narva-Jõesuu Municipality and prepare a final summary document.

Expected results

Expected results include increased knowledge and skills among young people, stronger dialogue between communities and local authorities, and community perspectives presented to decision-makers.

The project will result in a publicly available summary document with findings and recommendations, helping connect just transition discussions with the lived experience of local residents.
